I can do it!

Today was a tough day to wake up and go to school. Last week had been such a great but busy week with the Chinese New Year celebrations. I had parties all weekend: one on Saturday when my relatives came over the my house and another on Sunday afternoon. On days like this I remember what my parents taught me.

Not every day is easy but not every day is tough

For every difficult Monday like this one, there will be an easy Monday when I breeze into school all chirpy. There are days when am so excited to go to school to continue writing a story with my friends or because the day’s timetable included more time where I can chat with them. On special days I even get an excursion or a change seats to be next to my BFF in class.

Sometimes my parents would pack an extra snack in my lunchbox for me to share with my friends or even a surprise chocolate (that’s not allowed in school!) just so I get that boost. I love those days. The tough days are not too bad either. Once I get into through the first period of the day, I seem to be back into my normal mood. The tough feelings don’t last too long.

Something to look forward to

There is always something I can look forward to as an achievement or reward. Getting my homework done can be a chore, but the feeling of having finishing it and doing well in a test I studied hard for is really great. Not to mention the amount of free time I get after completing my work!

Daily small steps rather than one big one

My parents always remind me that it's better to improve a tiny bit every day than to make a big change. The extra 10 minutes I put into my schoolwork, sports or even a hobby that I like helps me get better over a long period of time. It kind of makes sense. Sometimes when I feel something is too difficult to do, my dad always helps me to think about small steps to get started.

There was once I was feeling unsure about going to a school camp. It was the first time I would be away from home for a few days. My parents help me prepare for it weeks before by going through the camp packing list and the program. We even had a run through of how to fold the sleeping bag and ziplocks. That helped me feel so much more prepared and ready!

I don't know about you, but it seems that things aren't that difficult once you really look at it. We can do it and we certainly got this!
